Engineer accused of drink driving on a Powys road to appear before district judge
The case against an out-of-the-country engineer accused of drink driving on a Powys road, has been adjourned.
Donal O'Reilly was due to appear at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court on Tuesday, but he failed to attend.
The 43 year-old of Johns Avenue, Lofthouse, Wakefield, is accused of driving a great Ford Ranger on the A483 Llanbadarn Fynydd to Llanbister Road on January 31 2026, with so much alcohol in his body, namely 91 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millitres of blood, that it exceeded the prescribed limit.
The legal limit is 80 milligrams in 100 millitres of blood.
Mitigating, Mr Geraint Parry said the engineer, who is currently out of the country, had asked to attend court via an electronic link but there was a mix up.
Mr Parry said he was acting as an agent for O'Reilly's solicitors and he had been instructed to submit a not guilty plea.
The court was told by the clerk that the case should be sent to Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court where it could be dealt with by a District Judge as O'Reilly was putting forward a technical defence.
Magistrates adjourned the case until September 3 at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court.
