Drug addict who had scissors in Shropshire town centre behaved in a way that 'could have led to trouble'

Addiction was causing offender “mental health problems”, court is told

A drug addict who had scissors in his possession late at night in a town centre was behaving in a way “which could have led to trouble”.

Michael Lambert had the scissors and a small quantity of cannabis in Queen Street, Market Drayton on November 8 last year.

The 44-year-old, who is currently serving a five-year jail sentence for robbery, joined his sentencing hearing for these latest offences at Shrewsbury Crown Court via video link from HMP Stocken, Rutland.

Lambert, of Shropshire Street, Market Drayton, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in a public place and possession of cannabis.

Danny Smith, mitigating, said: “His drug addiction was causing mental health problems for him,” adding that sometimes Lambert would be locked out of his accommodation and find himself on the streets for the night.

Judge Peter Barrie told Lambert: “You were behaving in a way which could have led to trouble late at night. You also had cannabis in your possession.”

The judge handed Lambert a 12-month prison sentence to run concurrently with the jail term he is currently serving.
