Child rapist military veteran, 52, jailed for abusing girl in Telford

“Practicing Christian” who raped girl told her “women are evil”

A paedophile child rapist has been jailed for 10 years.

Military veteran James Voyce, aged 52, raped and sexually assaulted the victim in Telford.

The abuse took place more than 15 years ago, when the victim was aged 13 to 14.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that Voyce told the girl that “women are evil”, and that men “just want sex and don’t want the emotional side of women”.

The victim said in an impact statement that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and has “severe trust issues”.

She also said she does not like to mix with men she doesn’t know.

The victim added that Voyce had stalked her social media, prompting her to leave various platforms for several years.

Voyce, of Walker Street, Wellington, pleaded not guilty to rape and inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity but was found guilty of both charges after trial.

Curtis Myrie, mitigating, said that Voyce had served in the armed forces as an electrical engineer, and that he is a practicing Christian.

“The reality of the convictions is he has lost the stability in his life,” Mr Myrie said. “The relationship he had is going to come to an end.”

Judge Peter Barrie told Voyce: “The behaviour you showed towards her has contributed to her having persisting mental health problems.”

He jailed Voyce for 10 years and made him subject of a restraining order, banning him from contacting the victim indefinitely.

Voyce was also ordered to sign onto the sex offenders register indefinitely and made subject of a 15-year sexual harm prevention order.
