Market Drayton BMW driver, 31, banned for driving after taking cannabis

Fine and costs also imposed by magistrates over motoring offence.

A motorist who drove after taking cannabis has been banned from the road.

Adam King, aged 31, drove a BMW X5 on Maer Lane, Market Drayton on April 18 this year.

A drugs test found he had 5.9 micrograms of Delta 9 THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit, accounting for the possibility of accidental exposure, is 2mcg.

King, of Fairfields Road, Market Drayton, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to driving with a proportion of a controlled drug above the specified legal limit.

Magistrates banned King from driving for 12 months and fined £80.

King was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £32 victim surcharge, bringing his total legal bill to £197.
