Motorcyclist, 60, denies causing death of woman in Shropshire A-road crash

A trial date has been set in 2029

A motorcyclist has denied killing a woman by dangerous driving in a crash on a Shropshire A-road.

Colin Williams, aged 60, is accused of causing the death of Suzanne Evans following a collision between a BMW R1200 motorbike and a tractor on the A458 at Rowton, near Shrewsbury on July 27 last year.

Williams, of West Road, Ketley Bank, Telford, pleaded not guilty to both causing death by dangerous driving and a lesser charge of causing death by careless driving.

At the time West Mercia Police said a 56-year-old female motorbike passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash between a tractor and a motorbike at about 6.30pm on the A458 at Rowton.

Police said the motorbike’s rider was also seriously injured and was taken to hospital.

In a brief Shrewsbury Crown Court hearing, held at Telford Justice Centre on Friday (July 17), Judge Trevor Meegan set a trial date for March 5, 2029 - more than two and a half years from now and more than three and a half years from the collision, and Ms Evans’s death.

The judge told Williams: “That is not unusual at any crown court in the country. You are free to go on unconditional bail.”
