Ex-RSPCA Shropshire boss accused of stealing £184k from charity

A former chairman of the Shropshire branch of the RSPCA has appeared in court over allegations that he stole more than £180,000 from the charity.

Peter James Ralphs did not give a plea when he appeared before magistrates at Telford Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He spoke only to confirm his name and address.

The 69-year-old, of Sutton Road, Shrewsbury, is charged with one offence of fraud by abuse of position.

The case relates to the alleged defrauding of £184,001.02 from Shropshire's branch of the RSPCA when he was the chairman between 2014 and 2017.

He has been granted unconditional bail and will appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on November 16.
