The Truth Project wants to hear from victims of child sexual abuse

It is part of a wider inquiry, led by Professor Alexis Jay, into the issue. She said she wants to “learn from the past to build a better future”.

Child sex abuse victims have been urged to contact the Truth Project.

Here are some of the details of how to get involved:

How do I get in touch with theTruth Project?

You can contact the project using its online form, phone, email or by post. You can call 0800 917 1000 or visit truthproject.org.uk. Phone lines are opn weekdays from 8am-8pm. This doesn’t commit you to anything and you can leave the process at any time. You will be asked to provide contact details so project members can get back to you at a time that suits you.

What happens next?

Someone will contact you to arrange how you'd like to share your experience. Staff at the Truth Project will get back to everyone who contacts them as soon as possible. You can either share your experience in a private session with one of its facilitators, or send a written account if you'd prefer. If you choose to meet in person, the project team will arrange a time and place. Transport and accommodation will be taken care of, so it won't cost anything.

What happens if I want to attend a private session with a trained facilitator?

One of the support workers will contact you before your session if you’d like. They will be there on the day of your session and can join you. At the Truth Project session, you will meet with a trained facilitator and an assistant. They will not challenge you or judge anything you say. All have experience of working with victims and survivors. You are in control of what you share and it doesn't matter if you don't remember everything, or choose not to share everything.

Is my information confidential?

What you do share is confidential. The only exceptions to this would be if the Inquiry needs to pass any information to the police or other relevant authorities, or where otherwise required by law.

Will the Truth Project cost me anything?

The Truth Project is completely free. When you decide to get involved, you can choose between meeting in person or sharing your experience in writing. If you choose to meet in person the project will cover travel, accommodation and reasonable out of pocket expenses.

Where will the session take place?

Sessions will be held in Telford. Once you get in touch, the project will provide you with the options of where and when the session can be arranged. All the locations, which are confidential, are easily accessible by road and rail.
