Burglars stole the meat from a storage unit at the back of Shepley Family Butchers.

They forced entry through a locked door at the business in Shrewsbury Road some time between 6pm yesterday and 6am today.

Police have been examining CCTV to try to identify the culprits.

Owner Scott Shepley said: "I came in to find the door open and they have forced entry through it.

"They have taken a lot. Because of the bank holiday we had a lot of deliveries on Tuesday.

"They have taken fillet steaks, legs of lamb, but they have left the pork. It must be thousands of pounds worth.

"Police seem to have a good idea of who they are."

Anne Tugwell, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "This burglary was reported to us at 6.10am today and is believed to have happened between 6.30pm yesterday and the time of reporting. Meat is the only thing that was taken."
