Motorcyclist, 60, appears in court over fatal crash with tractor on Shropshire A-road

Suzanne Evans was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the A458

A Telford man has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a woman by driving a motorbike dangerously on a Shropshire A-road.

Colin David Williams, 60, has been charged with causing the death of Suzanne Evans by driving a BMW motorbike dangerously on the A458 in or near Halfway House, between Shrewsbury and Welshpool, on July 27 last year.

At the time West Mercia Police said a 56-year-old female motorbike passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash between a tractor and a motorbike at about 6.30pm on the A458 in Rowton.

Police said the motorbike’s rider, a 59-year-old man, was also seriously injured and was taken to hospital.

Williams, of West Road in Ketley Bank, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Friday (June 19) charged with a single count.

He did not enter a plea at the brief hearing and District Judge Joseph O’Connor ordered that the case be sent to a higher court.

“This case can only be heard in the crown court due to the gravity of it,” he told Williams.

“Therefore you will appear in Shrewsbury on July 17 for a trial date to be fixed and for you to enter a plea.”

Williams was granted unconditional bail until the plea and trial preparation hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court on July 17.
