Consultation events on two large Shropshire housing plans

The consultation events are being held this week.

Consultation events are to be held this week on two large housing proposals.

Commercial Estates Projects (CEP) wants to build up to 1,400 homes on fields to the southwest of Shrewsbury, between Mytton Oak Road and the A488 Hanwood Road to the east of the A5.

It is another of Shrewsbury’s sustainable urban extensions (SUE) that has already been created to the south of Oteley Road.

The SUE is a scheme made up of three separate parcels of land from different developers. CEP has previously said its part of the site could accommodate between 1,200 and 1,400 homes.

People can learn more about the proposal on Tuesday (July 14) where a consultation event will be held at Bowbrook Primary School from 4pm to 8pm. Information boards can already be viewed online, and you can leave your feedback.

“Following the consultation event we held last year, we have been reviewing the feedback and liaising with Shropshire Council to discuss key elements including education, sports and recreation and design and are now holding a feedback consultation via the website and at a drop in event,” said Matt Rhodes, senior planning manager on behalf of CEP.

“This will share more information about the updates including the additional space for education, the reconfiguration of the local centre and the new community facilities it can provide, specific proposals for allotments and details of the green spaces, play areas and playing pitches and changing space for example.”

Meanwhile, a consultation event will be held in Shifnal on Wednesday (July 15) where residents can find out more about plans to build up to 500 homes in the town.

Harrow Estates has targeted land to the north and south of Stanton Road, and to the east of Coppice Green Lane, opposite Idsall School that is traditionally known as green belt land.

The northern section of the scheme is proposed for residential development and the southern section is proposed for employment uses.

A new country park with walking and cycling routes is also being earmarked, as well as a new car park to support nearby schools and Shifnal Town Football Club. A consultation event will be held at Idsall Primary School from 3pm to 7pm where people can find out more.

A spokesperson for the developer said: “Harrow Estates is bringing forward emerging proposals for a new sustainable, landscape-led development that will deliver new homes, new jobs, create new green spaces for the local community to use, whilst helping to improve local walking and cycling connectivity.

“We invite you to join us at our public consultation event to learn more about our emerging plans, ask questions and share your views.”
