Construction plan for Wellington Station lift and footbridge work lodged with council
Work to install two lifts and a new footbridge is set to begin this year
Parking and traffic arrangements for the construction of two lifts and a new footbridge at Wellington’s railway station have been revealed.
Network Rail's construction environmental management plan (CEMP) for the scheme sets out where site workers will have to park, where materials will be loaded and unloaded and how construction traffic will be managed.

Plans show that part of the station's long-stay car park, off King Street, will be used for contractor parking, cabins, and a storage area.
Workers will be banned from parking in surrounding residential streets "unless specifically authorised”.
There will be a specific area for commuter drop-offs and pick-ups, disabled spaces will be moved and a temporary pedestrian access created.
There will be two working areas: one on the north side of the station and the other on the south. Routes for construction traffic have also been mapped out.
The plan states that deliveries will be managed to "minimise disruption to local residents and station users”.
"Vehicle movements will be coordinated to avoid congestion where practicable.
"Banksmen will be used where required to safely manage vehicle movements."
Work will "generally be undertaken" from 8am to 5pm seven days a week, including Sundays and bank holidays.
The plan says that any work outside these hours "will be undertaken in accordance with Network Rail requirements and relevant approvals”.
There will be daily site inspections, regular reviews, and the "investigation and resolution of any complaints received”.

Any mud or debris left on the roads will be removed “promptly” and vehicle wheels will be inspected.
The plan adds that the scheme is not expected to have any impact on flash flooding at Wellington Station as existing drainage routes will be maintained throughout the works.
Steps are also being taken to keep fuel and chemicals away from drains.
Network Rail had said that work to install two lifts and a new footbridge is set to begin this year, with the project completed in autumn 2027.
It is working in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council which is investing £700,000 towards the new footbridge. Planning permission was granted in the summer on condition that a CEMP was submitted.
The footbridge will create a direct link between Wellington’s railway station and bus station.
