Disused Victorian chapels find new owners at Shropshire auction
The two Methodist churches near Whitchurch and Ludlow are set for a new lease of life after selling at auction.
Two disused Methodist places of worship were among lots sold in a property and land auction in Shrewsbury.
Both properties, Bettisfield Methodist Church near Whitchurch and Blackford Methodist Chapel near Ludlow, were sold on behalf of the Shropshire & Marches Methodist Circuit.

Bettisfield Methodist Church is a primitive Ebenezer chapel, built in 1879, while the Grade II-listed Blackford Methodist Chapel near Brown Clee Hill dates from 1869.
Eleven properties, including the two places of worship, sold for nearly £1.6m at Friday’s (May 1) auction.
Bettisfield Methodist Church sold for £86,000 while Blackfield sold for £52,000 - both more than double their guide prices.

The top seller in Halls auctioneers’ 12-lot auction was 5 Upper Linney in Ludlow, a Grade II-listed, four-bedroom townhouse, which raced away from its guide price to sell for £285,000.
A mixed residential and commercial property, 12, 12A and 12B Market Street in Craven Arms, comprising a ground-floor shop and two self-contained residential flats, also sold for £129,000.
Halls’ next collective property and land auction is on Friday, July 24.
