Builth Wells fun day is postponed for this year amid hopes it will return bigger and better in 2027
Popular Powys fun day to be postponed this year, organisers have confirmed
Builth Wells’ fun day will be postponed this year, but organisers hope it will return bigger and better in 2027.
The popular free family event has been held on the Groe every year since 2019, apart from 2020 because of Covid.
It offers youngsters and adults a day full of activities, stalls and treats including farm animals, farm machinery and equipment, a fun bus taking everyone on a trip around the town and donkey rides.
Organised by Builth Wells Town Council, the day has also featured many clubs from the town such as Builth Rotary Club, Dyfed Powys Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and rescue.
But this year with major changes required for the town’s Christmas lights, the council has agreed to rest the fun day and put all their efforts into the work needed on the festive display.

Builth Wells Councillor Gwyn Davies, who initially came up with the fun day idea and has contributed lots of time, animals and equipment to it, said: “I do support the idea of resting the fun day this year and then hopefully we will come back with a bigger and better event next year.
“The idea always was for it to be a fun cheap family day so children can enjoy themselves and the parents won’t need to put their hands in their pockets too much.
“Over the last few years that we have put it on and it has been a tremendous success with lots of positive feedback
“But we are a relatively small council and putting on these events takes a lot of work. Having a break will mean we can come back with fresh ideas and rebuild the fun day.
“I honestly believe that it will come back because I think a lot of the councillors are keen to put on events for young families but we have to manage our expectations this year.”
Councillors agreed to postpone the fun day this year and the funds originally allocated for the event, £1,920, will instead be put toward the Builth Fest carnival for their inflatables, with the understanding that they do not charge.
