Brewery reveals plan for bashed up boozer near Shrewsbury which was left with major damage after lorry crash

A brewery has revealed its plans for a pub smashed by a lorry.

The Three Fishes in Bayston Hill was hit by a lorry on Monday, November 11, after the vehicle careered off the A49 and into the side of the building.

The crash caused major damage to the left side of the pub, which had only been bought by Black Country Ales a handful of days before.

The crash also destroyed the Hong Kong City chinese takeaway next door to the pub.

Now the brewery has revealed its plans for the future of the bashed-up boozer, which was originally built back in the 16th Century.

In an application to Shropshire Council, Black Country Ales says it wants to rebuild the section of the building smashed in the crash, as well as extend the pub.

The proposal includes a new smoking shelter - the original was destroyed in the crash - as well as a double storey extension to the rear of the main public house, and single storey extension to rear of toilets.

A design and access statement outlining the plans said: "The proposed planning application is for reinstatement to the left side of the existing building following a lorry crashing into the side of the building causing substantial structural damage.

"Upon advice from a structural engineer, a further section of the building has been demolished to make the building safe and allow highways to reopen the A49 which was partially closed for health and safety.

"As part of the re-build new extensions are proposed to the rear of the property to increase the trading areas, private accommodation to first floor and the cellar making it more accessible for deliveries.

"A new external smoking shelter will be constructed in a new position; the existing smoking shelter was demolished in the crash."

Under the plans a new rear entrance lobby is being created at the back of the pub to allow access from the carpark, while the front door is being moved to improve access for disabled customers due to a new internal lobby being formed.

A decision on the plans will be taken at a later date.
