Bank confirms south Shropshire town's ATM is to close in December
Despite the closure, those behind the nation’s ATM network are “confident” residents will still be able to access cash in the town
A major high street bank has confirmed it is closing its ATM in a south Shropshire town.
Barclays has said its ATM in Craven Arms outside the town’s convenience shop at 1 Corvedale Road will close.
It comes after Stuart Anderson, the Conservative Party MP for South Shropshire, raised concern about such a move by the bank last week.

A spokesperson for Barclays said they had “issued the notice” on the ATM.
According to a message which appears on the ATM’s screen, residents are told that the machine will close “on or around 11 December 2026”.
A Barclays spokesperson said: “Any changes to our ATM network are independently assessed by LINK under the UK's Access to Cash framework to ensure local communities continue to have access to cash.”
The bank is aware of the community appeals to keep the ATM open, it is understood.
LINK, which is the United Kingdom’s cash machine network, is confident that the community will still have access to cash moving into the future.
A spokesperson for the network said: “LINK’s role is to ensure that consumers and businesses can continue to access cash free of charge for as long as it is needed.
“We carried out an assessment of cash access in Craven Arms in September.
“We are confident that local residents and businesses can access the cash services they need through the Post Office and the free-to-use ATM in the nearby supermarket.”

According to LINK’s own Cash Locator online service, which lets you find your nearest ATM anywhere in the country, residents in Craven Arms will still be able to access cash from the Post Office and from Delves & Co Nisa located in Tuffins Supermarket.
Last week Mr Anderson said he had contacted Barclays and LINK over the then rumoured closure to raise his concerns.
He said: “I’ll do everything I can to get this resolved.”
