They will perform in a big top marquee near the Dingle.

A set of 1990s musical legends will perform in Shrewsbury’s Quarry tomorrow night to help kick off the town’s unique multi-venue music festival.

Northern Irish three-piece Ash, Britpop legends Reef and veterans The Bluetones Acoustic are coming to the Quarry on Friday night (May 1) as part of the Loopfest Fringe in what organisers called “one of the biggest shows of the year for Shrewsbury”.

Ash were formed in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray and are known for their 1995 song Girl From Mars.

Reef, from Glastonbury, have toured extensively and performed at numerous festivals and supported the Rolling Stones and Soundgarden among plenty others.

The Bluetones Acoustic are Mark Morriss and Adam Devlin, half of London indie rock band The Bluetones.

Black Country singer/songwriter Jess Silk will open Friday night’s show in a big top marquee near the Dingle, one of several venues in the town that will be in use all weekend for Loopfest with more than 250 acts due to perform across town.
