24/7 diversions for weeks while Shropshire bridges are repaired
Both bridges will be out of action for the majority of August.
Diversions will be in place 24/7 for several weeks while work takes place to repair two Shropshire bridges.
Shropshire Council has confirmed the forthcoming repairs to Boreton Road Bridge near Condover, and Mill Brook Haybridge near Cleobury Mortimer.
The bridges carry unclassified roads over the Cound Brook and the River Rea respectively.
The Boreton Bridge will be closed for the work from July 27, through to August 21.
A spokesman for the council said: “The work comprises the reconstruction of the upstream right hand masonry wing wall and parapet, together with repairs to the existing concrete parapet within the central bays on the downstream side.
“To carry out the proposed work safely it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic. The closure will be in force 24/7.
“The ford at Boreton will be monitored during the work and the bridge reopened to allow traffic to access over if cars are unable to access across the ford during any flooding events.”
When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted by a signed diversion route. It will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
The route at Mill Brook Haybridge will be shut from August 10 to 27.
A spokesman for the council said: “The work will involve reconstructing the right end of the upstream parapet, fencing works and general pointing following a road traffic collision last year.
“To carry out the proposed work safely it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic. The closure will be in force 24/7.
“When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted by a signed diversion route.”
Again the route will be open to pedestrians and cyclists.
The council added: “To inform the public of the proposals, advance notice signs will be erected at the bridge and an information letter delivered to local properties.”
