23 photos capture packed Gatehouse Theatre as Poppy Appeal launches in Stafford

Schoolchildren, musicians and civic dignitaries came together as this year’s Poppy Appeal was launched in Stafford.

Crowds gathered at the Gatehouse Theatre for the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal.

The Royal British Legion’s annual fundraising campaign raises money to support serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families through the sale of remembrance poppies.

The launch event, which took place today (Monday, October 19), was organised by Paul Milgate Scarrott and featured children from Castlechurch School and Yarlet School.

Performers also included Laura Stanyer and Martin Paul from the Naked Sundays, Maria Kelly, who was Staffordshire Young Musician Intermediate Vocalist 2025, and Ailish Steele, Staffordshire Young Musician of the Year 2025.

Among those attending were the Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Professor Liz Barnes CBE, the Worshipful the Mayor of Stafford, Councillor Mark Winnington, and the Mayoress, alongside other distinguished guests.

The Reverend John Davis MBE, Stafford Branch Royal British Legion President, said: “Paul Milgate Scarrott organised another super Poppy Launch and we hope to raise many thousands of pounds over the following weeks of the appeal, we are always very grateful for the support of the people of Stafford.”
