Shropshire butcher recovering after serious motorbike crash

A butcher from Shropshire is recovering after a serious motorbike accident.  Simon Gibbons was involved in the accident at Darley Moor Racing track.

The former Bridgnorth Rugby Club player was racing at the track in Derbyshire on April 3.

It is believed the accident was caused by a blackout or heart attack and Mr Gibbons is said to be recovering slowly and breathing without the aid of a ventilator.

Mr Gibbons, who owns Simon Gibbons Butchers in Broseley, is currently in a major trauma hospital outside the county.

In a statement on the rugby club's website a spokesman, said: "Over the last 11 days Simon has undergone major surgery to his spinal column – cervical & thoracic regions – rib cage and left leg.

"He is recovering slowly and breathing without the aid of a ventilator while the trauma team carry out the necessary test before moving him to a spinal rehabilitation centre closer to Shropshire.

"Family and friends are all pulling together to support Paula his wife and his two children, Jack and Alice, and Sally his mother but also to ensure the family run shop in Broseley remains fully operational while Simon recovers.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Broseley and surrounding villages for all their support and best wishes."

On the butcher's Facebook page Simon Gibbons Butchers Mr Gibbons' wife thanked everyone for their support.

She said: "Just thought I would say despite rumours, we are still very much open.

"Andrew is doing a very good job after all he's been taught by Simon and we are trying our very best to keep the shop open with all your wonderful support we hope to continue to do so.

"We would also like to say thank you for all your phone calls, cards and Facebook messages we are overwhelmed with people's kindness."
