The former WBC super middleweight, from Woodside in Telford, delighted fans of the sport when he joined heavyweight hopeful Anthony Joshua at a function.

Richie, 47, remains Shropshire-based and is now a successful boxing pundit.

As a sideline, he poses the questions at regular sporting dinners at the Premier Suite at Bar Sport in Cannock.

He tipped Londoner Joshua for stardom when the pair joined forces for the event in front of 300 paying guests.

Towering boxer Joshua, still just 25, is making huge waves as a professional after winning an Olympic gold medal at his hometown London Games in 2012.

'AJ' – as he is known – has knocked out 14 opponents since first punching for pay and no-one has been past three rounds with him in a pro ring.

He is in training for his next fight at the moment on December 12, where he will take on old amateur nemesis Dillian Whyte at the 02 Arena in London.

But first it was a meal, memories and hopes for the future to an enthralled audience at Scott Murray's venue in Cannock, which has hosted several ring greats.
