The plans for the 38 hectare site would see 470 homes being built, ranging between three and five bedrooms, as well as a primary school for 200 pupils.

There would also be space for a business hub, a health centre, pharmacy and a shop on the site.

Northern Trust Company Ltd is working with the owner of the site, British Sugar, to regenerate it.

The results of a previous consultation showed 91 per cent of residents supported the regeneration project.

In response to the consultation, the plans now include 56 half-size allotment plots or 28 full-size plots with car parking.

There are also plans for a sports and social club, sports pavilion, two bowling greens, a junior sports pitch, two full size football pitches, two cricket fields and car parking.

Kevin Whitmore, spokesman for Northern Trust, said: "We have spent a lot of time working with the local community and key stakeholders on formulating these plans and ensuring the proposals deliver a scheme which fits in to the existing community and improves the infrastructure and services for the area."

The British Sugar plant closed in 2007 after 80 years in operation with more than 100 jobs lost.

The buildings were demolished at the site after the factory closed.

The plans will be on display from today between 5pm and 7.30pm at Allscott Sports & Social Club in Shawbirch Road.

It is expected that a planning application will be submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council before the end of the year.
