“The amazing farming community in full swing again, supporting crews from Brecon, Hay-on-Wye, Builth Wells, Llandrindod, Rhayader, Eardisley, Peterchurch, Abercrave and Presteigne.

“Another full day spent working in really challenging conditions.

“Well done everyone for just keeping going. Let's hope the rain comes tomorrow.

“To add to an already busy day, Brecon supported Crickhowell with a vehicle fire."

Hay Meadow Burial Ground has shared this dramatic photograph and an update from Monday night as the wildfire continued to burn on Glascwm Hill.

In a social media post, the burial ground said: "Sadly Glascwm hill is on fire now right above us best for everyone to keep away as the smoke can be quite intense.

“Lots of gratitude to the fire crews who are working so hard and presently protecting our nearest neighbour's home.

“Rich and I were both up in ‘Hay Meadow’ and took this photo late last night.

“Through the night we have heard large diggers working so hard trying to create a firebreak.

“It seems so unreal, just wish it would rain!"

The gorse and grass fire at Glascwm started yesterday afternoon and had a fire front them of approximately 600 metres with a significant amount of smoke being generated.

Yesterday afternoon crews from five different Powys fire stations were on site including Builth Wells, Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells, Hay-on-Wye and Brecon.

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We would like to reassure residents that fire crews are in attendance and actively dealing with the incident.

If you are in or travelling through the Glascwm area, please avoid the immediate area where possible to allow emergency vehicles and crews to operate safely, keep windows and doors closed if you are affected by smoke, take extra care on surrounding roads where smoke may reduce visibility, do not attempt to approach the incident to take photographs or videos and continue to call 999 if you see a separate fire or believe life or property is at immediate risk.”
