We visit the West Midlands tea room that sits on top of a former coal pit
We visit a lovely West Midlands tea room tucked away in a country park steeped with history.
Baggeridge is a familiar name to many who are interested in our rich local history, it was once home to Baggeridge Colliery which was in operation from the early 1900s up until March 1968.
Looking at Baggeridge Country Park, in Dudley, it’s transformation into a place of lush greenery is a far cry from its past.
The country park first officially opened in 1983, on the site of the former coal mine.

For more than four decades, the country park has been popular retreat for many locals in the area wishing to escape the noise of the busy towns packed inside the Black Country region.
We caught up with, David Daly who is the owner of The Daly Grind R.C. Cafe which you can find within Baggeridge Country Park.
The premises is formally known as Baggeridge Tea Room.
The owner, David tells me all about the area’s local history, sharing “Baggeridge Colliery was once classed as the biggest coal pit in the UK”.

This is a history that David is keen to tell to his visitors, as the images of the old colliery are displayed around the tea room, as well as through the toys on display.
There are many tea rooms in the West Midlands, but David is keen to tell me that this tea room, is a lovely respite for many who choose to meander through Baggeridge on a warm day.
At the tea room, you can find all the usual favourites such as delicious coffee and baked goods.
One amazing feature of this particular tea room, is that you can find a wide selection of ice cream.

There are twenty varieties of ice cream at the ice cream parlour.
The tea room also hosts lots of local talent such as choirs, local singers and performers.
There is a warm coffee lounge-like atmosphere, and it is pretty popular with visitors.
The tea room also works with South Staffordshire Council to host lots of events.
The space comes with a rather ‘good’ Google reviews rating, having a score of 4.3 stars based on 200 Google reviews.
One reviewer praised the location for being a “Lovely tea room with outdoor seating and lots of drinking stations for dogs. Good selection of ice cream and cobs.”
The tea room is typically open between 9.30am and 5pm during the week and with extended hours on the weekends.
Address: Baggeridge Country Park, Gospel End Rd, Gospel End, Dudley.
