Rehearsals for Telford and District Light Operatic Players' (Tadlop) production of Oklahoma! are now well underway.

There is less than a month until the show hits the stage at Oakengates Theatre and cast members say they are having a great time bringing it to life.

The show is the group's 85 production, and marks its 45th anniversary.

Lyndsey Bird, publicity manager for Tadlop, said: "Rehearsals are going well everything is now blocked and it's all about running and polishing everything. We are adding props and practising dance routines to get them as slick as possible.

"We are now planning the get in stage with less than a month to go. We will have only a few hours to build the set when it arrives at the theatre so we are organising people to help us construct all the parts. Helpers and volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

"The principal cast have been working so hard to learn all their lines, songs and routines for this classic show. We still find ourselves laughing at certain scenes because of the way the lines are being delivered.

"Oklahoma! is a funny, lively, and colourful show and everyone, both on and off the stage, has been working so hard to bring it to life.

"We just hope that when people leave from seeing the show they can't help but sing along with some of the songs."

Set just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colourful backdrop against which Curly McLain, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey Williams, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.

Classic songs from the play include Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin', The Surrey with the Fringe on Top, People Will Say We're in Love and Oklahoma!.

TADLOP was formed in 1972 at Shirlee Gaston’s Dance School by a dozen parents of some of the pupils and other like-minded people.

Oklahoma will take place at Oakengates Theatre from the October 18 to 21 at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on October 21.

Tickets cost £14 and are available from society members or via theplacetelford.com.
