Monster trucks, a kids zone, an antiques area and a full programme of main arena attractions are lined up for the show, which runs between 9am and 6pm at the Greenhous West Mid Showground, Shrewsbury.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the event and show chairman Neale Sadler said he was hoping the good weather would continue into the weekend.

"All the preparations are done and we are putting the final touches to making this show one for the record books," he said.

"The weather has been fantastic, which helps with so much work going into setting up the showground, and we are hoping that carries forward into Saturday and the sun smiles on us."

Mr Sadler said early indications are promising as advanced ticket sales are up and they have had the best entry for sheep classes in 15 years.

He added: "The number of trade stands booked in rival anything we have had since going to a one-day show, so now it’s a question of waiting to welcome our visitors.

"There will be something to cater for every taste and to suit all ages. A kids zone will be running throughout the day and there has already been a great deal of interest in seeing Big Pete’s Monster Trucks.

"We also have a number of varied trade stands, an antiques area, arts and crafts, an artisan food zone and taste of the shires, which highlights the very best in food and drink.

"Shropshire County Show is also one of the most important events for showing livestock with entries coming from all over. Once again this year we have a high number of entries for what are always keenly contested classes."

Entry for children under 13 is free and there will be free parking for show visitors on the day.

Advance tickets are on sale until 8pm on Thursday. For more information visit shropshirecountyshow.com
