Shropshire Council has said it is exploring a number of options after complaints that Theatre Severn’s panto performances went ahead on Sunday despite many ticket holders being unable to attend due to the weather.

A depleted crowd watched Snow White and Severn Dwarfs, with a host of seats left empty.

The theatre has said no refunds would be given.

Today Councillor Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “We recognise that a number of customers didn’t attend the Sunday shows and will be disappointed.

“Theatre staff alongside Evolution Productions are therefore looking at other options, including alternative dates in January 2018, and we hope to update our customers as soon as possible.”

She added: “Due to the continued cold weather and the decision by many schools to remain closed, today’s matinee performances has been cancelled.”

Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre and Telford’s Oakengates Theatre both cancelled their productions on due to the adverse weather.
