Mother and daughter Sue Phelan and Michelle Talbot say they are on "cloud nine" brought the house down with their rendition of Run to scoop the £500 cash prize, a trophy and opportunities to perform at several community shows including Carnival of the GIants, Shropfest, in Ironbridge; Hadley's fun day and Telford's Christmas light switch on.

They were crowned winners of the contest that was organised by the town's Dennis-Miller Production Team as part of events to celebrate Telford's 50th birthday.

The pair came through the audition and semi-final rounds with performances of the Leona Lewis hit Run and Cats Stevens Hallelujah to come out on top at the live finals held at The Place, in Oakengates, on Friday where they impressed celebrity judge Googlebox star Sandra Martin their harmonies.

Dance troupe Full Out was second and singer songwriter Billie Stockley was third.

Mrs Phelan, 62, said: "It was absolutely amazing. We're still on could nine. There was so much talent on that stage any one of us could have been the winner.

"We feel privileged to even have been selected from the earlier rounds. It's been fantastic.

"We were all in tears when they announced our names. We don't know how we sang for the encore as we were in shock and it was very emotional. We have been singing together for 17 years, but never entered competitions so this was our first. We come from a musical family.

"We're both born and bred in Telford. I thought it would be a good idea to enter, but Michelle was a bit sceptical at first. I had to persuade her and she's glad she did it now. It was great to be able to showcase our talent in a packed auditorium of 600 people and to get a standing ovation from the audience and the judges too.

Judge Hayley Fellows

"The judges were all brilliant and Sandra Martin was so excitable. She gave us two of her rings."

Intrigue beat 18 other acts to win the top prize.

The judges

The Dennis-Miller Production Team stated: "Telford's Got Talent was a fantastic night as a fantastic night and a sold out show. As 600 attended. We would like to say well done to all 19 acts that participated in the competition as without you would be no show.

The audience

"And congratulations to Intrigue who were the winners.
