Wem Carnival has been held for well over 100 years, and this year the event was as popular as ever.

Visitors enjoyed a day of carnival fever, as the streets were filled with rich and vibrant colours, marching bands, dancers, circus acts and much more.

And those who lined the streets for the day's two parades were rewarded with perfect late summer weather.

"It's really fun filled day, with plenty of entertainment for everyone," explained Louise Green, carnival vice chairman.

She added: "We've had lots going on across Wem Recreation Ground. I'm also the entertainment coordinator, so I've been responsible for putting together the procession.

"There's been lots and lots of exciting floats to see, as well as lots of people dressed to impress in fancy dress. A new feature for this year is the craft stall."

"As always a big thank you goes out to the volunteers and everyone involved with making the carnival floats. Without them would be no carnival.

"This event has been taking place for over 100 years, and it's always held on the first Saturday in September.

"It's always a really fun community event."
