Telford Decathlon to close – here's when, and what the firm is offering before it closes
Decathlon has announced the closure of its Telford store, from next month.
The sports retailer said that the Forge Retail Park shop was shutting after a review of its stores across the UK.
Michael McHale, Regional Leader at Decathlon UK said it would close its doors on November 3.
He said: “We’re saddened to be closing our Telford store, which has served the local community for over six years.
"However, we’re excited to continue supporting our loyal customers by welcoming them to our Wednesbury location, just a short drive away.
"At Decathlon, we remain committed to bringing the wonders of sport to life and providing the same great products, services, and experiences that our customers have come to love.”
The company has not said how many workers will lose jobs as a result of the closure, but said it is "exploring opportunities within the company" for those who want to remain with the retailer.
The firm has also pointed customers to its Wednesbury store, and said it will be offering clearance promotions and vouchers for Telford shoppers, which can be used at Wednesbury in the coming months.
A statement from the firm said: "Decathlon has confirmed that its Telford store, located at Forge Retail Park, will permanently close on 3rd November 2024. After serving the local community since 2018, Decathlon would like to extend its gratitude to both its staff and customers' for their dedicated support over the past six years.
"This closure is part of Decathlon’s broader review of its store network, following a brand refresh earlier this year. The review also includes significant investment in modernising stores across the UK to enhance the overall customer experience.
"In line with Decathlon’s ongoing mission to 'move people through the wonders of sport,' the company will be offering Telford customers discount vouchers to help them stay active over the winter and discover new sports. These vouchers are redeemable exclusively at the nearby Wednesbury store until the end of the year.
"Decathlon is committed to supporting its Telford team members during this transition and is exploring opportunities within the company for those interested in continuing their journey, wherever possible."
It added: "As a gesture of appreciation, Decathlon will be offering special clearance promotions and vouchers for Telford customers, which can be redeemed at the Wednesbury store in the coming months."
