Shrewsbury- based construction firm secures place on £3bn framework

Shrewsbury outfit R1 Construction can now bid for public sector contractors across the West Midlands

A family-run construction company has secured a place on a £3 billion regional framework which places it alongside some of the biggest names in the industry.

Shrewsbury-based R1 Construction has been selected as one of just eight contractors appointed to the ‘minor works' lot of the Constructing West Midlands 3 framework.

This framework represents £700 million worth of potential construction projects over the next four years.

The appointment gives R1 Construction the opportunity to compete for public sector projects across the West Midlands region, potentially bringing significant opportunities for local jobs, subcontractors and suppliers.

Founded in 2014, the Harlescott-based contractor has grown from a small family business to employing more than 40 people.

The firm delivers projects across education, care, healthcare, Ministry of Defence and residential sectors.

Managing director Ben Tomkinson said: "We're absolutely delighted to have secured a place on this framework.

"It's a huge achievement for R1 and something we're all incredibly proud of.

"When we started the business back in 2014, we could only have hoped to be competing for opportunities like this.

"To now be sitting alongside some of the biggest names in the construction industry is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of our team over the years.

It's an exciting step forward for the business and we're really looking forward to what the next four years will bring."

Pre-construction manager Abi Bebb added: "What's particularly exciting for us is the opportunity this could bring to our local supply chain.

"We work with some fantastic subcontractors and suppliers across Shropshire, many of whom are family-run SMEs just like us.

"As R1 continues to grow, we want the businesses around us to benefit too.

"Securing a place on a framework of this scale gives us the chance to create more opportunities for local companies, support jobs and keep more investment within our county.

"We're incredibly proud of our Shropshire roots so being able to fly the flag for our county on such a prestigious framework makes the achievement even more special."
