Historic house in Ludlow to reopen as boutique hotel after six-year renovation project

A Tudor gem in Ludlow is set to reopen as a boutique hotel and dining destination after six years and millions of pounds of investment.

Castle Lodge in Ludlow, a Tudor-era treasure at the heart of Castle Square, is almost ready to welcome guests after a six-year, multi-million pound restoration.

The lodge, which some claim was the former residence of Catherine of Aragon, the first wife of King Henry VIII, dates back to the 13th century and was rebuilt in 1580.

The Grade II* listed building in had begun to fall into disrepair before it was bought by Ben Tagg in 2018.

Two years later, Shropshire Council granted permission for Mr Tagg to convert the historic residential property into a hotel with a bar and restaurant.

It's now been revealed that the property owner has formed a partnership with fine food caterers, Evatt & Bullock Co, with plans to open to the hotel and restaurant to the public in the new year.

Evatt & Bullock Co. has been providing on-site private chef services at a luxury holiday home in Ludlow since 2023.

In a recent update, Harry Bullock of Evatt & Bullock revealed the hotel will feature seven suites, each individually designed by a team led by Ludlow-based interior designer, Libby Lord.

On the ground floor, there will be a snug, bar, restaurant and private dining room.

The joint statement said: "Our next chapter, sees business partners Ben Tagg and Harry Evatt Bullock take this stunning boutique hotel, restaurant and bar to the forefront with our amazing team of talent.

"We look forward to continuing serving you and cannot wait to welcome you to the Castle Lodge in 2026."

Further updates will be provided on the two companies' social media channels, on Facebook at Castle Lodge Ludlow and Evatt & Bullock Co.
