Farmers get go-ahead to expand award-winning Shropshire holiday park on Welsh border

The owners behind a family-run organic farm on the border between Shropshire and Wales have been given permission to expand their award-winning holiday business.

Last month, the owners of Black Hall, an organic farm and holiday park near Knighton, revealed their plans to install six shepherd's huts to be used as holiday lets.

A planning application submitted to Shropshire Council stated the farm has been a "successful holiday destination" for around 20 years.

The family had turned to the holiday rental business in a bid to diversify their income in the early 2000s, following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.

Over the years, the business has won several awards, including Hoseasons' Best in Britain 2017 and Best Small Lodge Park in Heart of England 2019.

Today, the site - which is still a working organic farm - includes several luxury log cabins and a large building that houses a swimming pool, sauna and steam room.

The latest scheme proposed having six shepherd's huts installed on a one-acre patch of agricultural land between existing lodges.

Reviewing the scheme, a spokesperson for Shropshire Council's planning department stated that, although the site was "deeply rural" it was a "well-established enterprise".

The officer's report added: "The site is also a small and well-contained parcel of land between existing lodges and woodland in a reasonably secluded valley setting, so the development would not be unduly prominent in the wider landscape or in relation to listed buildings on the historic farmstead."

After determining the local road network was able to accommodate the additional traffic and that there were no neighbours to consider, the plans were given the go-ahead.

The full application and decision notice is available to view online on Shropshire Council's planning portal (reference number 25/04671/FUL).
