Market Drayton hope to play new signing this week

Market Drayton Town will have Shrewsbury Town youngster Jeff Watkins on show at Greenfields on Saturday – providing they can finally beat the weather.

Town lost their fourth Evo-Stik League South game as many weeks when their trip to Stocksbridge Park Steels was called off on Saturday with standing water reported on the ground and more rain forecast.

It left 18-year-old midfielder Watkins kicking his heels after being at the centre of a rush deal by Town boss Martyn Davies as he moved to boost a side left vulnerable by injuries and unavailability.

A product of the Shrewsbury Academy, Watkins joins the club in a work experience arrangement, highlighting the links Town are keen to strengthen with neighbouring professional clubs Shrewsbury, Stoke and Crewe along with senior sides such as AFC Telford.

Town have seen games against Kidsgrove, Spalding and Stocksbridge, plus the abandoned affair against Norton Athletic all fall foul of the weather in what's been a lean spell for home supporters.
