Help choose stadium’s new name
Tuesday 4th May 2010, 4:31PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town Football Club is to change the name of its stadium, it was announced today. And club bosses revealed supporters will get the chance to pick the name by voting in an online poll.
It came as Greenhous, Shropshire’s largest new car and commercial dealer, announced it has extended its sponsorship of the club.
As a result, supporters will be able to participate in an online vote which will decide whether the football ground, currently called the Prostar Stadium, should be renamed as the Greenhous Stadium, Park, Coliseum or Arena.
- Which of the names would you choose for the Prostar Stadium? Tell us in the comment box below
It is part of a new three-year deal which will see the county company continue to sponsor the club’s shirts.
One voter will be picked at random to conduct the official naming ceremony at the first home game of the season in August and will win VIP match tickets for the game.
Dave Sullivan, director general manager of Greenhous, said: “The Shrews attract the biggest regular crowd to home games of any club or event in the county, and many of our customers and staff are season ticket holders.
“We are passionate about the future of professional football in Shropshire, we really want to get as many fans and customers involved with our sponsorship as possible, so at the start of next season we’ll be announcing a series of new initiatives to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate,” Mr Sullivan added.

The Greenhous Coliseum! You’re having a laugh, surely….

Why are we still ignoring our History? I still refer to the Prostar as ‘The New Meadow’. We lost a lot of pride and spirit when the name did not follow us to the new stadium.
I believe we should reintroduce the ‘Meadow’ but preceded by whoever is sponsoring us.
i.e the Prostar Meadow would now become the Greenhous Meadow.
As its a new deal with Greenhous(e)….how about The garden shed or compost corner
Report abuse
“Muppet theatre”, “mid table stadium” or “White elephant” all suitable names I’m sure you’ll agree!
To be honest, none of them really inspire. I’d much rather the ground reflected the club not the sponsor, though I understand the reasons for it. I’ve always hoped they’d call it King Arthur’s Park after one Arthur Rowley of course. Best of a bad lot, I’ll settle for Arena.

There is only one name in my opinion:
“The New Meadow”
There is a great need to retain the conection with past glories and traditon….and at the same time the word “New” leaves no doubt that we are on he way forward!!
2009-2010 was a hiccup in the scheme of things!!

Why not just call it ‘The Greenhous’. After all a greenhous(e) is generally a warm and workmanlike space where things are nurtured and developed just as footballers should be. Look after them right and you will be rewarded.
I think the Shrewsbury Town football Ground should be named the GREENHOUS ARENA

Coliseum it has to be! like the warriors in battle.

Not wanting to sound daft but – would Man Utd ever rename “Old Trafford”? How can a club retain any identity if it changes its grounds name all the time?
Just hope Poundland don’t pick up the sponsorship after Greenhous!
Just ‘The Meadow’ would be the best. As mentioned above ‘The Greenhous Meadow’ would be acceptable, but unfortunately that option was taken up with marketing ‘expert’ thinking “I know let’s put Coliseum’ as an choice”!!!
Please take into account the history of the club in future.
Could we have the Greenhous Meadow? Seems a much better option than the coliseum! Would get a little bit of history back into the place which can’t be a bad thing.
as its Greenhous, how about Vauxhall Viva..

Greenhouse Areana
Report abuse
Greenhouse Stadium but should be the new meadow !
Green Meadow? Let’s try and keep everyone happy eh? The ‘official’ choices are non-descript boring and plain dull.

So are we to expect a change of name every couple of years? If so, it is pathetic. I have been a big supporter of the new ground, but how is it ever going to establish any character if the name constantly changes? They should have given it a name that meant something like ‘Rowley Park’ etc and then at least if it was the ‘Greenhous Rowley Park’ it would still have some identity.
Very disappointed with the senior management over this one.
Why not just The Greenhous(e). Just imaging Jeff Stelling saying “And we’re going to The Greenhouse where Tom Bradshaw has just bagged his hat trick”
Call it The Greenhous Meadow Arena
Report abuse
It’s the New Meadow, end of!
What is going on? Where’s our pride and history gone? Our ground should just be called ‘The New Meadow’ plain and simple. I love this club but this is just plain embarassing for every single supporter.
I think it should be named after one of the most successful managers in the clubs history. The Simpson Coliseum.
I agree with Andrew Barker, it should be the New Meadow or The Greenhous New Meadow… this would show who our sponsor is and also keep Shrewsburys historical football name alive………
Report abuse
How about Greenhous(e)Gas? There has been much hot air emitted about promotion
Report abuse
Following on from previous suggestions, I think there should be some link to the past and, therefore, if a sponsor’s name HAS to be included then the stadium should be called ‘Greenhous Meadow’ (most of my Town supporting friends refer to it as ‘The Meadow’ anyway, rarely mentioning Prostar)
Call it the wind tunnel until something gets done with the corners,

THE ARTHUR ROWLEY STADIUM.

The die hard fans always refer to the stadium as ‘The Meadow ‘.
I think it should be
‘ Greenhous New Gay Meadow ‘
Report abuse
the greenhous arena
Report abuse
i think it should be called the new meadow not named after a sponsor.
Greenhous Meadow
Report abuse
Agree with Mr Haynes (No4)…..The New Gay Meadow – I don’t know why it was not called this in the first place – so many people still say ” The Meadow “
Report abuse
Meadow Should be re-introduced. Understand that in the modern game sponsorship is important so understand that having a company name is likely to stay, but how about (Sponsor’s Name) Meadow, As in Greenhous Meadow. The sponsors name will chande, however,The meadow will remian the constant and people will generally refer to the ground as the meadow or the new Meadow. Futher Meadow will be unique and retains some of the history left on the banks of the Severn.
I think it should be called ‘The New Meadow’
Report abuse
Why is it being changed again?
how about the greenhous effect lol
Report abuse
You can call it what you like but at this rate the club will never win hearts and minds as long as it is prepared to kowtow to sponsors in this way. There are many more ways to reward sponsors – by all means change the names of the stands to reflect sponsors. The length of the deal with Greenhous surely does not constitute sufficient investment to warrant the stadium name – Emirates and Reebok had to invest in the building schemes significantly to get a look in. Senior managers should be ashamed at handing over the clubs heritage so cheaply to Prostar in the first place. Only radio presenters ever called it the Prostar anyway, but it’s an important principle. I can’t blame Greenhous for trying their luck when a precedent has been set. if they must have their ego massaged in this way, then it has to be the New Meadow (Sponsor name in brackets) eg The New Meadow (Greenhous). The Greenhous Coliseum? Get a grip!
I would like to keep the history off the club, never mind the sponser, i would like to suggest…THE SALOPIAN MEADOW…..
ladies and gentlemen i give you the shrew stadium
Report abuse
How about the Greenhous Circus. Seems to be run like one. Disgrace!
Damn fools to name it greenhous anything – what happens when greenhous no longer sponsor it – all the cash spent on updating everything to do with the name, stationery, letterheads etc to name but a couple of things.
I agree with #51 tc, by not referring to the sponsor.
How about combining part of the old name with one of those suggested:
The Gay Arena
Report abuse
The Greenhous Gas
Report abuse
The New Meadow change it back to its original name
Report abuse
i would include the chairmens name in the new title,as it is thanks to Rolands generosity that we have a new stadium.
There-fore i would name the stadium
ROMEADOW
Report abuse
How about “Theatre of Disappointment”?
Just “The Meadow” will do you can put the sponsor name in front of Meadow each time it changes just hope Dobbies never sponsor us!

How about ` Meadow 2008 ` or whatever the official opening date was.

#52, #56 get my vote. Otherwise it’s “The Stadium of Crepuscular-ness”

This is almost as exciting as the scintillating competition in the Telford Journal some years ago to name Telford’s new FM radio station. And the winner was? ‘Telford FM’!

The New Meadow , I would rather Greenhous charge me less for car servicing, plus when they go bust it would men another name change , New Meadow, respect a little bit of history

I think that it should be none of the suggestions given. What if it is called the Greenhous Stadium, what happens if they pull out of the sponsorship? I personally think it should be left as it is or as someone else has said why not call it the “New Meadow”
