Emergency services were sent to the beauty spot at about 12.40pm after 999 calls.

In a statement North Wales Police said: "We were called to the area of the aqueduct in Chirk at 12.42pm today.

"Sadly the body of a man was found, deceased."

Officers said that the coroner for North Wales had been informed of the death, which is not believed to have been suspicious.

Local people reported seeing a lot of police activity below the aqueduct that carries the Llangollen Canal over the Ceiriog Valley and is part of the World Heritage Site.
