Van fire closes A442 near Bridgnorth

A road near Bridgnorth was closed today by a blazing van.

The van, which was on the A442 at Quatford was completely engulfed by flames.

The fire service arrived at the scene at around 7.51am, and had put out the fire by around 8.15am.

The road was closed while the fire was dealt with and for a period after the incident.

Writing on Twitter, Shropshire police said that the fire service had dealt with the matter quickly and no one was hurt.

A tweet from the force said: "PC Nicholson come across this van fire on A442 at Quatford while travelling to HQ for a training course. Traffic is bad please avoid the area for the time being. Thankfully no-one hurt and quick attendance by @shropsfire put the van out."

The account later tweeted: "Road now fully open thanks for everyone's patience while highways made the scene safe."
