Daredevil 'free runners' damage Shrewsbury rooftop window

Damage caused to a rooftop window in Shrewsbury town centre was most likely caused by people indulging in the daredevil pursuit of "free running", police said today.

Free runners often leap across rooftops, walls and other structures.

In the last six months police have received a number of reports of people jumping from roof to roof in the town centre.

On Tuesday night damage was caused to a window at an estate agents on Barker Street and police believe it was caused by freerunners.

Officers tweeted:

Sergeant Richard Coles said: "While freerunning and climbing on buildings is not a crime, we can deal with it via community protection orders.

"Damage was caused to a window at Miller Evans on Tuesday night."

Freerunning is an acrobatic and athletic discipline founded by Sébastien Foucan. He started what he termed "freerunning" in 2003, which he developed as a more inclusive form of parkour. Freerunning is a version of parkour that includes acrobatic moves that are purely aesthetic, most practitioners do this art fluidly.
