Man found lying unconscious after serious Telford attack

A large area of Oakengates was cordoned off on Saturday after a man was found lying unconscious early this morning.

The man, who is believed to be in his 20s, had been attacked and was found lying unconscious in Lion Street in Oakengates at around 7.45am.

He had injuries to his face and body and was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A large area of Oakengates was cordoned off on Saturday to aid police with their investigation.

Detective Sergeant Ian Rutherford, from West Mercia Police, said: "This was a very serious assault and we are working to ascertain what happened this morning.

"We are reviewing CCTV from the area and would ask anyone who witnessed the incident and has not spoken to police already, to please come forward.

"I would also like to thank the members of the public who stopped to help the man."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward

Officers are particularly keen to speak to two men who stopped to help the man but left the scene before officers could take their details. It is thought they could have important information.

Lion Street was closed to both vehicles and pedestrians while officers investigated.
