A home in a quiet Shropshire hamlet has been wrecked by fire.

Fire crews rushed to the two-storey detached home in Ollerton, near Market Drayton, after receiving a report that a young boy was trapped inside.

But on arrival, firefighters were told the youngster and his family were all safe.

The fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen, spread throughout the property with every room suffering from smoke damage.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue watch manager Steve Palin was sent to tackle the blaze at about 2.50pm yesterday.

He said: "When we received the initial call from a neighbour we were told a person was trapped inside but, when we arrived, we were informed that was no longer the case and the family was safe and well. The pets, two dogs and a number of cats were also fine.

"It looks like the fire started in the kitchen and the flames spread quickly through the property.

"The floor has virtually given way in the back bedroom and there is smoke damage in every room. The owners of the property are devastated. The only consolation is at least nobody was hurt."

The family was too upset to comment.
