The horse was discovered injured down a slope off Priorslee Road, Shifnal, before 8pm on Tuesday night.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was a 28-year-old male horse that was collapsed against a fence at the bottom of a bank."

He said the horse was not trapped as such but was unable to move due to its injuries and a vet was called to sedate it so that it could be rescued.

The fire service's animal rescue team, which is based at Wellington Fire Station, made the scene safe along with colleagues from Telford.
