Lorry 'wipes out' level crossing in Shropshire causing delays on the trains

Trains in the county were severely delayed today after a lorry 'wiped out' the level crossing at Onibury, between Ludlow and Craven Arm.

There were severe delays on the lines between Cardiff and Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury and Chester, and Shrewsbury to Crewe/Manchester.

The lines were reopened shortly after 3.30pm, but there was expected to be delays into the evening.

In response to a customer on Twitter Arriva Trains Wales said "a lorry has wiped out a level crossing barrier".

The crash, which happened at 1.40pm this afternoon, also caused problems on the A49 at Onibury where the crash took place with the junction with Back Lane.
