Mr Jones, community sports development officers, and Neil Homer, education project leader, visited Christ Church CE Primary School in Cressage yesterday, as part of the community "Reading The Game" programme.

Representatives from the football club have been visiting the school for the past month as part of a different way of delivering lessons to the pupils.

The Reading The Game initiative was launched in November last year as a means of capturing the motivational power of football and sport to inspire young children to read more and improve their literacy skills.

Delivered over a six week period, the programme has been delivered to primary schools in and around the Shrewsbury area, including Cressage School.

In the company of their special guests for the day, the pupils are given a combination of classroom-based learning and outdoors sessions on the pitch. The sessions also included statutory requirements of the new national curriculum.
