Letter: Lap dancing club in Shrewsbury a step too far

We are advised by the Shropshire Star that Shrewsbury is to have a lap dancing club by approval of the licensing committee.

I was pleased to see it was opposed by Councillor Bannerman and the police authority.

It would appear that Shrewsbury on a Friday and Saturday night is not a good place to visit. I would ask if our councillors would wish their wives to dance around a pole with next to nothing on while a lot of men were watching? Councillors, that is what it is about.

Already we have the ambulance service on stand by should any drunk who should fall over and cut their knee will immediately receive their attention. Not only that, the taxi service is ready to be called by pubs and clubs to collect those who cannot stand up. Well if they wish for their customers to be sick in their cabs, carry on.

Then we have the police who have to face the aggression that alcohol brings on. Why do they have to face this situation?

Finally we have the street pastors who are there to treat people stoned out of their minds. Just let them lay in the gutter where they belong. It was their choice to get in this state.

Councillors it is time you started to sort this out. All licensed premises should close at midnight before we have a very serious problem.

I wonder who will be first to respond to this comment?
