The woman was walking past the White Lion pub in Tan Bank, Wellington, at about 4pm on New Year's Eve when she was approached by a man who came out of the pub.

He spoke to her then put his arm around her, grabbed her hair and pushed her to the ground.

She suffered slight injuries to her knees and was very shaken by the incident.

The offender is described as a white man, aged about 22, with black hair which was about ear length.

He was wearing a purple jumper.

Officers carried out a search of the area but were unable to trace the offender.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

PC Emma Burrows said: "This assault happened in the late afternoon on New Year's Eve when there were a number of people around starting their celebrations.

"The offender had been drinking in the White Horse pub so someone may have seen him in there and be able to help us to identify him."
