Some of the employees at P&W Contractors were laid off without notice.

Staff arrived for work on Monday to find gates to a compound shut and the vehicles they usually drive locked inside.

It is understood the business is having to restructure but it will still carry on trading in a different form.

Until the weekend the firm employed almost 50 people. It is not known how many have lost their jobs.

Jason Elliott, from accountants Cowgill Holloway, which is dealing with P&W, said the company had gone into "creditors' voluntary liquidation".

He said a creditors' meeting had been called for November 17, and said a liquidator would be appointed at that meeting.
