The campaign against proposals put forward by Shropshire Council to pull the plug on funding worth about £65,000 had 1,096 supporters last night.

The petition was launched on Thursday by Mike Layward, artistic director of Shrewsbury-based group Disability Arts in Shropshire (DASh), and attracted 800 supporters within its first 24 hours online.

It calls for full consultation on cutting money from the revenue client grant scheme, which last year helped 32 arts organisations around the county to bring in a further £1 million in grants and income.
