A BMX fun day which raised hundreds of pounds for the charity set up in tribute to murdered teenager Georgia Williams was such a success it is now set to become an annual event.

The Wrekin Ride for Georgia was held for the first time last month to raise funds for the Georgia Williams Trust.

The event, hosted and organised by Wrekin Riders BMX Race Club in Dawley, saw 80 riders take to the national-standard £250,000 track on Duce Drive.

Parents even got involved with a mums' and dads' race.

Now organisers say they would like a different children's charity to benefit each year and are asking for charities to apply to the club if they want to be considered.

Jo Edwards, who runs the track with her husband, Kieran, and a team of volunteers, said: "The Wrekin Ride event was fantastic and to attract 80 riders from across the region to the first event was overwhelming.

"We raised £300 for the Georgia Williams Trust and now we would like to do the same for another charity when we host the event again in August 2016. The day was a great fun day with trampolining, bouncy castles, cakes stalls and catering but next year's event will have even more attractions."

Mrs Edwards said Georgia's parents, Steve and Lynnette, were "amazing" in supporting the event and attending to give out medals to the riders. She said: "Every day we read in the local media about all of these fantastic charities which do so much good work for children in the region so we'd like to help by raising some money for a different charity in 2016."

Charities can apply to be the charity for 2016's event by emailing wrekinriders@outlook.com and must include all contact details and some information about the charity and the work it does.

Mrs Edwards said: "We will then invite the chosen charity to a committee meeting in the new year to start planning the Wrekin Ride event for 2016 which we hope will be bigger and better once again."

Georgia, from Wellington, was 17 when she was tragically murdered in 2013.
