Lorry fire blocks M54 in Shropshire

Motorists were caught up in delays today after a lorry crashed into a barrier and caught fire on the M54 in Shropshire.

Firefighters were called to the motorway when a lorry crashed into a barrier on the westbound carriageway near Albrighton at about 5.15am.

The lorry had caught fire and three crews were sent to put out the blaze using breathing apparatus and a hosereel jet.

A Twitter user posted a picture of the blaze:

Highways Agency and the police also attended the accident which blocked one lane between Junction 2 at Wolverhampton and Junction 3 at Albrighton.

Drivers were caught up in delays of about 25 minutes until all lanes reopened at about 7am.

No one is believed to have been injured in the incident and no other vehicles were involved.
