And while swimming in the River Severn near Bridgnorth, this little otter was captured on camera by wildlife photographer Andrew Fusek Peters. "I think it is up there as one of the best photos I have taken," said Andrew, who lives in Lydbury North.

"Everything about it works. There is something about the way he is looking at you, he is in the water, you have got the reflections, and it is just a very intimate portrait of a wild creature."

Mr Peters discovered the otter through the Shropshire and Bridgnorth Wildlife group on Facebook and a tip-off from a friend.

He said: "There is a whole, really good community of wildlife photographers in Shropshire and it was partly through them, but also a friend of mine who has an office in Bridgnorth who said 'You have to come and see this otter, he's coming out every day'."

It took a couple of trips before the otter made an appearance but Mr Peters said it was worth the wait.

"It was just amazing and I was taking pictures of him running up and down and he was fishing, coming up right in front of us. To get to see this amazing sight is just extraordinary, I feel very humbled by the experience."

He added: "To be following him up and down the river like this is actually amazing, it is like having a safari in Shropshire."

Mr Peters, whose book of Shropshire wildlife pictures, "In Wilderness is Paradise Now", is being published next year, said he was surprised at how the otter had not been intimidated by the presence of photographers.

"He was saying 'I've got fish, I am happy, relaxed, and almost showing off'."
