Traffic lights at a major crossroads in the county have not been working properly for more than a week.

During the morning and evening rush hours, residents claim the traffic lights at the crossroads in Lawley, near the Morrisons supermarket, have been permanently stuck on red.

Residents said they have contacted Telford & Wrekin Council about the situation but so far nothing has been done.

Many people have said the fact that the traffic lights are not working is very dangerous to road users and something needs to be done sooner rather than later.

Residents and Lawley and Overdale Parish Council have been concerned about the number of accidents at the crossroads since it replaced a roundabout a number of years ago.

Nigel Newman, spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said: A council engineer visited and tested the lights on Wednesday morning.

"The engineer did not see the signals stuck on red but believes the issue has been caused by lower traffic flow over the holiday period and has now made changes to the lights sequencing that should now help traffic to flow more freely.

"We will continue to monitor the situation closely and if there are any further problems we ask the public to report these using www.telford.gov.uk/report_it"
